Do you want to make techno music from the comfort of your home? Learning to Make techno music isn’t as difficult as you’ve been led to believe. With a little bit of help, you’ll find that it’s simple, fun and fast to put together amazing dance tracks. You don’t need to spend days researching the latest production techniques in order to make good music. You simply need to obtain good electronic music production software, a basic PC, a MIDI keyboard controller and to learn a few easy steps – and you’re off to the races!
First, let’s look at the PC. Before you do anything else, you’ll need a PC to run everything off of. Of course you can choose between between either PC or Mac, but I recommend sticking to PC. You can get a faster processor, more memory and much more space with a PC. You can use the extra cash for other components you choose to add on later.
As for power – the better your system – the better your software will run, and smoother your music will sound. A basic PC like this one doesn’t cost much but it has descent specs to achieve good quality sound and run professional electronic music production software.
MIDI Keyboard Controller
A MIDI keyboard controller is not a necessity but it can make the process much easier. Its basically a little virtual piano keyboard that allows you to press sounds instead of searching through a database trying to find the right one. A basic MIDI controller only costs a few dollars but will help you to create music faster than you could without one.
Electronic Music Production Software
There are lots of options when it comes to software to make techno music. Some are advertised as electronic/hip hop/RnB music production software, but under the hood – they all basically provide similar tools. It’s really a matter of preference as to which software you like the most and feel comfortable learning.
Electronic music production software can cost anything from $99 to $599. The range from intro version to pro versions and price themselves accordingly. My go-to software is designed to be simple to use and learn – but allows you to make professional quality music from home. If you time it right, you can usually get it for under $40. But even at full price, it’s still a great piece of software to use.
Learning to make techno music
This is where it gets fun. Learning to make techno music comes from practice. You’ll mess around with the software of you choice and quickly start putting together beats that sound good to your ear. Even though you might get lucky the first time, it’s best to keep practicing to ensure that every song is high quality.
A good way to do this is to simply sit and listen to your favorite techno songs. Painters learn from looking at and admiring other paintings, and it works the same for music. You’ll always read how a band or artist was influenced by an artist from a previous generation. This is because that music resonated with them and they used some ideas from those artists as a base and built their own songs on top of it.
Use your ears to learn, then your mind to create and you’ll be making amazing beats in no time!
